WIP Wednesday

Today, in order to keep things 'fresh,' I worked on three things and just rotated them around.  I just finished four 12 hour shifts so I really didn't do much during the last week.  The first one I'll share is a quilt I am making for my sister.  She came back from a trip to Africa with some gifted fabric and asked me to make it into a quilt.  So, here is what I have so far.

Sister's quilt

The grey fabric is flannel from a duvet cover.  I asked her to provide the backing and I'd do the rest, and she wanted flannel, so she got me the duvet cover.  Since I have way more than I need I thought I could use it on the front and the back.  I first put this solid border around.

Border 2

Then I did a lot of chain piecing.

Border 1 & 2

And then I've begun attaching the next border.  I'll reserve judgment, but I'm hoping that this works out well.  I'm worried maybe I should have reversed the order of the borders.

Anyways, whilst I was doing this, I was also working on my two QALs.  I got this week's block finished for the Sew. Happy. Quilt. QAL.

Block #8

So far that makes eight blocks.

Sew. Happy. Quilt. QAL.

I also started putting together my Sparkles for the Sparkle QAL.

Your sampler blocks look great so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing your hometown sparkle blocks.

  3. I'm excited to see your quilt of African fabrics. I have slowly accumulated a lot of these but am unsure what to do with them, besides admire them on the shelf.

  4. I think the borders look awesome the way they are. I think it adds focus to the prints and allows the eye a resting spot. It really looks fabulous!!
